CONSULTANT IN ENDOCRINOLOGY AND DIABETES

FULL TIME 10 PA’s

 

We are inviting candidates to apply for the post of Consultant in Endocrinology and Diabetes to join the existing clinical team at the Great Western Hospital, Swindon.

This is a substantive and full time post offering clinical specialisation in Endocrinology and Diabetes clinics, Acute Medical on-calls and providing cover of 18 beds within an Endocrinology & General Medical ward base.

 

The job offers an opportunity for continued experience in General Endocrinology clinics, including Thyroid, Adrenal, Joint Pituitary and Parathyroid patients, with monthly Multidisciplinary meetings and discussions. In addition there is a well-established Diabetes service with clinics specialising in Young Adult/Adolescent Diabetes, Diabetic Foot, Weight Management, Antenatal and Gestational Diabetes. The Diabetes service is supported by a nurse led Pump Service and a team of Diabetes Specialist Nurses. An Endocrine Specialist nurse is in post supporting the Endocrine service with clinics and specialised testing.

The Great Western Hospital opened in 2002 with well-appointed accommodation for staff and patients. The hospital is a Teaching Hospital for undergraduate students from both Oxford and Bristol Universities. The Trust provides acute services to Swindon and the surrounding areas (catchment 350,000) and community services to Wiltshire (catchment 750,000).

Swindon is a thriving town set between the Cotswolds to the North and West, the Upper Thames Valley to the East and the Marlborough Downs to the South. London, Bristol and Oxford are all within easy reach, approximately one hour by car with good links by public transport. The rail journey to London Paddington from Swindon is approximately 55 minutes.

There are beautiful villages with excellent housing in the surrounding rural areas of Wiltshire and the Cotswold’s including Marlborough, a bustling market town located in Savernake Forest only 10 miles away from the Great Western offering a variety of housing and renowned educational institutions.

Current employees should be aware that this position is advertised as a GWH position and appointment ends any TUPE protection.

All candidates are required to pay for their own DBS check where applicable. Standard DBS check costs £26 and will be recovered from your first pay; Enhanced DBS check costs £44 and will be split and recovered over the first 2 pay.

Bank posts requiring a DBS check; payment must be made prior to commencing.

Apprentices are exempt from payment.
