Luton Clinical Commissioning Group (LCCG) is led by doctors , nurses and other health care professionals and its mission is to help promote a healthier Luton. Each of the 28 GP practices in Luton is a member and provides local health knowledge and experience. In this way, we can act together to provide services more effectively.

We plan, organise and purchase NHS funded health care for the people of Luton. This includes hospital services, community health services (such as district nursing, health visiting and various therapies) and mental health services.

The CCG has an approximate budget of £230 million to pay for the majority of health services in the area, ensuring an effective, high quality health service with access where and when you need it. We will also work to reduce health inequalities.


The Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes (BLMK) Integrated Care System (ICS) are providing a number of exciting training opportunities for Specialist General Practice Nurse Training.

BLMK ICS serves a population of almost one million people. The organisations within BLMK include; 105 GP Practices, three Clinical Commissioning Groups (Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes CCG), four local councils, three local hospitals and a number of Community Care, Mental Health and Ambulance Service Providers.

Please note that the successful candidates will be employed directly with a practice on a 6 month fixed term contract and we will support you to find a position within the local area after your training period (dependent upon suitability, successful completion of the course and available positions).

Specialist General Practice Nurse Training Opportunity

General Practice Nursing is a hugely rewarding area of nursing and critical to the success of the NHS Five Year Forward View Strategy.We are looking for Registered Nurses to join our dynamic and forward thinking primary care teams as General Practice Nurse Trainees.

The specialist GPN Training is a unique opportunity to join general practice and gain the skills and experience for future substantive employment. This is a Training position and no experience of General Practice Nursing is required.

As a General Practice Nurse you will support people to manage their own health conditions, such as asthma, diabetes, or cardiovascular disease. You will help them to stay well and promote healthy lifestyles whilst also assessing, screening, and treating people from small children to the elderly.

To apply for this opportunity, you will need a valid NMC PIN andyou must already be a registered general nurse (or about to receive your PIN).

We are seeking someone who is a team player, who has a flexible approach to work, who is keen to learn and who is willing to undergo the training stated below:

  • A full-time (37.5 hours) six month training contract

  • You will be funded by your employer to undertake the Fundamental Skills and Knowledge for General Practice Nurses Module at the University of Hertfordshire

  • You will be working in one of BLMK GP Practices and be supported by the practice team to meet the skills and competencies

  • Your role will develop over the 6 months and we will support you to find a position within the local area after your training period (dependent upon suitability, successful completion of the course and available positions)

You will need the commitment and drive to meet the requirements of this challenging course and the ability to be flexible in working in a team of supportive, knowledgeable nurses, AHPs and GP’s. In return you will acquire a variety of skills and knowledge and contribute to caring for our registered population of patients.

The salary will be £24,214 (Band 5) and the closing date for applications is 26th April 2019.
