Employer:
Midlands and Lancashire Commissioning Support Unit
Location:
Kingston House, Kingston House
Salary:

The Strategy Unit exists to improve outcomes. We believe that clear thinking and applied analysis improve decision making and implementation. This leads to better results. We work on complex challenges. Our support is most valuable where the need for innovation is high and the suitability of standard approaches is low. Our clients, who are at the forefront of UK healthcare, value us as a trusted partner to provide advice, based on the best possible evidence.

Our Story: in the NHS, for the NHS

The Strategy Unit was established in 2006, as a small specialist team within a Strategic Health Authority. Today, we are hosted by NHS Midlands and Lancashire Commissioning Support Unit, operating as an autonomous consultancy with an annual turnover of around £3 million. We are in the NHS, for the NHS. Our staff are NHS employees and they are animated by NHS values.

The Strategy Unit is a team of around thirty highly experienced NHS managers, analysts and consultants. We are profoundly multi-disciplinary. Our staff come from varied professional and personal backgrounds. Their academic backgrounds include maths, economics, history, natural sciences, medicine, sociology, psychology and political science. Their career histories are just as varied.

Drawing insights from this variety is where our strength lies. Our multi-disciplinary teams are experienced in: policy and strategy development, consensus building, programme design, assurance and implementation, capacity building, evaluation, analysis, evidence review, trusted advisor support for senior leaders, transformational change, organisational development, process improvement, intelligent commissioning, and supporting innovation.

Growing the NHS’ advisory and analytical workforce is at the heart of our mission.

The role(s):

We are recruiting Consultants to provide us with additional capacity to support clients and build our pipeline of talented individuals. We are seeking individuals with an analytical mindset, who understand the value of evidence and can take responsibility for the day-to-day delivery of project outputs. The successful applicants will;

  • Have a passion for improving services and patient outcomes
  • Believe that the NHS is a world class healthcare system - and that enthusiasm and problem-solving skills can make it even better
  • Care deeply about evidence and believe that complex problems require clear thought and strategic decision making

We are seeking individuals who can take responsibility for the day-to-day delivery of project outputs, working within a project team on behalf of clients and partners in at least one of the following areas:

  • Applying knowledge of qualitative methodologies
  • Production of evidence summaries
  • Strategic analysis and planning
  • Complexity and Improvement

Common to all the roles is the need for insightful and unbiased analysis to help our customers make big decisions and understand the associated risks.  The Strategy Unit needs people who can understand the context within which our customers operate and assist them to identify and structure the problems they need to address.  You will have a good knowledge of the National Health Service, its organisational structures and operational processes and an appetite to learn more.
