Senior Pharmaceutical Adviser (Pharmacist) – 1.0 WTE Band 8A

 

Base: Charter House, Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire.

 

We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated, flexible, clinical pharmacist who thrives on promoting good quality, safe and cost effective prescribing.

 

You will be working with a long established and respected team of award-winning Pharmaceutical Advisers to support medicines optimisation and the commissioning of medicines.

 

You will be responsible for supporting the local decision making process for medicines including the development and implementation of prescribing recommendations and guidelines in primary and secondary care. You will support the overarching commissioning of medicines agenda including the area prescribing committee and processes for national tariff excluded high cost drugs commissioning/approval/validation. You will support the strategic development of pharmacy and medicines optimisation initiatives and liaise with relevant health care practitioners.

 

We are particularly interested in applicants with demonstrable experience in local decision making for medicines, treatment guideline/pathway development, medicines information/formulary support and/or commissioning. We are also interested in applicants with expertise in key clinical areas such as frailty, diabetes and respiratory disease, but you will support the commissioning of medicines across all clinical areas.

 

You will be required to line-manage a band 7 In-Practice Pharmaceutical Adviser who works off-site to support the implementation of CCG medicines optimisation initiatives in practices.

 

Your role will be diverse to support other areas of the CCG’s medicines optimisation programme. There will be opportunities to gain and share experience and training in all activities of the team who provide a varied range of services.

 

To apply for this position, you must be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) as a practicing pharmacist. You will have a sound clinical knowledge and proven ability to communicate and negotiate effectively with all levels of staff in order to achieve objectives. If you have good computer literacy, excellent communication skills, a post-graduate clinical qualification or equivalent experience; are adaptable, with good organisational and team working skills, this may be the opportunity for you. Applicants with less than 5 years post-registration experience are unlikely to have the level of experience required.

 

The successful candidate will be expected to be able to travel around the CCG to attend meetings and support GP practices. There will also be a requirement to join our rota of on-call CCG duty managers (daytime hours only, approximately one day every 6 weeks), and also potentially to provide medicines optimisation support to patients in an intermediate care setting.

 

East and North Hertfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group (ENHCCG), is a forward thinking ‘’Outstanding’’ CCG with 55 member practices and has commissioning responsibility for a population of about 600,000. We are centrally situated in leafy Welwyn Garden City with easy access transport points. ENHCCG is part of the Hertfordshire and West Essex sustainability and transformation partnership (STP).
