Specialty Doctor in Acute Medicine

Applications are invited for the post of Specialty Doctor in Acute Medicine at the Great Western Hospital, Swindon. This post is available from as soon as possible for an initial period of 12 months.

Our Acute medical department consists of a 33 bedded Acute Medical Unit (AMU), a  Short Stay Unit (SSU) and a well-established Ambulatory Care unit (ACU). The ACU is currently open Monday to Friday and is a consultant led service with dedicated juniors doctors and nursing staff.

The Acute consultants are responsible for the running of AMU and SSU and start daily post take ward round at 0800 hours Monday to Friday. The Acute physicians supervise the acute take during the day. The successful candidate is required to have full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC).

The successful candidate will be expected to play an active part in the development of the AMU and ACU. Every support will be given through CPD and governance.

The acute medical unit is fully integrated within the Unscheduled Care directorate which includes all other main medical specialities.

The main trust hospital, The Great Western, is an attractive new building set on the outskirts of a busy and popular town of Swindon. The hospital has excellent travel links, 5 minutes by car to junction 15 of the M4. The town is on the main rail line between Bristol and London Paddington with travel time of less than an hour to both cities.

Current employees should be aware that this position is advertised as a GWH position and appointment ends any TUPE protection.

All candidates are required to pay for their own DBS check where applicable. Standard DBS check costs £26 and will be recovered from the first months pay; Enhanced DBS check costs £44 and will be recovered over the first 2 months pay. (£22 per month)

Bank posts requiring a DBS check; payment must be made prior to commencing.

Apprentices are exempt from DBS payment.
