The Children & Young People Service (CYPS) provides high quality specialist mental health and learning disability services for children and young people.

Gloucestershire’s Intensive Recovery and Intervention Service (IRIS) supports a small percentage of extremely vulnerable young people aged 11-18 years old who have very high risk and complex issues which are best met through close multi agency collaboration. IRIS is a multi-agency service commissioned by Gloucestershire County Council (GCC) and consists of a multidisciplinary casework team, diversion placement/support, day provision and foster carers.

We are seeking a highly enthusiastic and committed highly specialist and registered mental health professional to undertake a 6 month fixed term contract/secondment role within this innovative service development as a Band 8a Operational Lead.

Key objectives within this role include:

  • Hold a small caseload of young people with complex and high risk mental health needs, typically “stepping down” from Tier 4 adolescent units.

  • Facilitate a “different” understanding of the young person needs from psychological, mental health and trauma focused models.

  • Provide full range of operational and line management roles and responsibilities to CYPS staff including:

  • Governance overview including oversight of continuous improvement, quality assurance initiatives and reflective practice.

  • Contribute to the planning, development and delivery of service and quality improvements.

In addition, the successful candidate should be able to demonstrate:

  • Substantial experience in providing evidence based clinical interventions to manage young people presenting in crisis and where intensive treatment is either to avoid Tier 4 admission or facilitate earlier discharge where clinically indicated.

  • Extensive experience of providing high quality clinical supervision to colleagues, including staff from other areas within children’s services.

  • Experience of leading projects or other clinically based initiatives which will have made a contribution to delivering innovative and high quality services to children and young people.

  • Experience in offering specialist CYPS/CAMHS consultation where a young person’s vulnerability and maladaptive behaviours may not due to diagnosable mental health disorders but due to difficulties related to attachment, trauma or loss.

  • Provide regular clinical supervision to social care staff.

  • Significant training and experience in delivering evidence based Dialectic Behavioural Therapy (DBT) is desirable.

What we can offer you?

  • Opportunities to develop your highly specialist clinical and managerial skills through training, profession specific support and development supervision and personal coaching initiatives.

  • The opportunity to develop highly specialist knowledge, experience and skills with a leading CAMHS provider,

  • The challenge of complex and varied work within an integrated multi agency team
