Funded by NHS England, The Office for Life Sciences and NHS Improvement, the West of England Academic Health Science Network exists to accelerate the spread of innovative, evidence-based practice to improve health and care in the West of England. We work with all six acute Trusts, five Clinical Commissioning Groups, five community providers, two mental health Trusts and three universities in the West of England. We also work closely with local businesses, small and medium enterprises, Local Enterprise Partnerships and a range of other academic partners to facilitate the adoption and spread of innovation into health and social care.

We are committed to improving outcomes for patients through improving access to research, applying evidence and ensuring consistency of clinical practice. We run projects working at scale to spread evidence-based quality improvements across the region.

Our highly collaborative network accelerates the scale and pace of delivering consistent good practice across our communities. This work is underpinned by high levels of collaboration with industry to ensure that we are innovative, enhance patient outcomes and drive up wealth in our local economy.

We host the Patient Safety Collaborative for the West of England and manage a wide improvement agenda working across all health care sectors. Our aim is to reduce incidents of harm and improve quality. We are committed to supporting and building the quality improvement capability and capacity of our local organisations.


The West of England Academic Health Science Network is one of 15 AHSNs in England, formed in September 2013 and issued with a second license in 2018. The West of England AHSN provides a partnership through which the NHS, industry and universities can work together for patient benefit and wealth creation for the UK economy. We are a partner in several health and life science business accelerators and this role, within our Innovation Exchange, is primarily to provide business development advice to companies and ensure the efficient running of the accelerator schemes in conjunction with the other partner

We are building a strong programme delivery team and seek a pro-active team player to work closely with local businesses seeking to work with the NHS in the improvement of health outcomes across our communities.

The successful applicant will have experience in the successful planning and implementation of projects that deliver expected outputs and realise tangible benefits, plus experience of working with businesses and organisations in the health and life sciences sector

We will select someone who has strong personal organisation skills, coupled with enthusiasm, commitment and personal drive.

Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, in order to build effective working relationships with a range of stakeholders, including small businesses will also be essential requirement
