St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in Tooting, South London, is a large teaching hospital with a very busy maternity unit providing care to over 5000 women each year.

We take great pride in promoting midwifery by delivering holistic woman-centred care to our diverse local community. The enthusiastic midwifery and obstetric teams work together to meet the specific needs of women who come from a wide range of social and cultural backgrounds.

We strive to normalise the pregnancy and birth experience for women with both high and low risk pregnancies, excelling in the provision of high risk care for women who need it. Whilst actively increasing our homebirth rate and the option of giving birth in our midwife-led unit, our caesarean section rate continues to be among the lowest in London.

We recently launched 10,000 Steps With You…..which is our commitment to continuity of carer for women who choose to birth their babies with us. We are seeking enthusiastic midwives who wish to walk this journey with us and guide our women through one of the most precious times in their lives.

If you thrive in an energetic environment, which is rich in culture and diversity, then please consider the next stage of your career to be working in a community-based or hospital-based team helping us to implement the Better Birth Agenda. If you wish to work and broaden your horizons and gain experience from working in a major tertiary referral unit, then there are many opportunities for experienced midwives with us at St George's. You can develop your skills and practice across the entire maternity service including delivery suite, inpatient areas, midwife-led unit/ birth centre, community, homebirth team, specialist maternal medicine and day assessment unit / fetal medicine unit.

We currently have vacancies for experienced Band 6 midwives. All contracts are rotational and you will therefore gain experience in all areas of midwifery.

We have a well established Practice Education team and we offer a comprehensive orientation package and annual mandatory updates. The Practice Education team is inclusive of Fetal Monitoring midwives and an HDU midwife that supports staff clinically.

If you are passionate about midwifery, keen for a challenge and work well in a team whilst showing initiative, we would be pleased to hear from you.

All applications should be made on-line. Please read the person specification and ensure you meet the essential criteria before applying. Please note this vacancy may close before the date specified if sufficient applications are received.

Interview date: Thursday 21st March 09:00-17:00, please make arrangements to be available all day
