Consultant in Endocrinology & Diabetes

Job Reference: 415-MP364-18

Northern Devon Healthcare Trust
General Medicine
£76,761 to £103,490 pa

Would you like to be part of exciting change in diabetes care?

We’re revolutionising care for diabetes patients in northern Devon and you could be part of it.

We have created two new consultant roles, with the aim of developing a more multi-disciplinary team model of diabetes care, targeting expertise where it is required in the community and preventing poor health outcomes.

The whole of the clinical community in northern Devon is behind this care model. You are joining us at exactly the right time to be part of a team that is wholly committed to getting diabetes care right. In addition, there is also the opportunity for one of the posts to lead our exciting Integrated Diabetes Service project.

The successful candidates will support the general medical take and will complement the existing consultant team as we expand our physician body to 18, to help us deliver seven day services while maintaining a good work-life balance.

There are ample opportunities for teaching and training throughout the Trust and across the region. The department has regular medical student attachments from the local medical school, and we encourage involvement with research and audit.

We would also encourage and welcome you visiting the hospital, if this is more convenient at a weekend we would be more than happy to facilitate this. Please contact Tina Squire, HR Manager – Medical Staffing on 01271 349111 who would be happy to arrange overnight accommodation for you and family to visit the area and arrange for you to meet key personnel.

We would love to hear from you to speak confidentially about how you can develop your career with us – please contact Dr Byron Theron, lead clinician for medicine, on 07789 503553.

Our values guide everything we do. At all times, we aim to:

  • Demonstrate compassion
  • Strive for excellence
  • Respect diversity
  • Act with integrity
  • Listen and support others

Our teams of care professionals work with patients and their families to support peoples’ independence, health and wellbeing. We provide support to avoid hospital admissions, and if an admission is necessary, we try to make each patient’s stay in hospital as short and effective as possible before working with them on a safe discharge home.

In our most recent staff survey, our staff voted us in the top 10% of NHS provider organisations to work for and we also came out as the top provider in the South West for our overall results. Our patients (through the Friends and Family Test) regularly report an average of over 95% satisfaction with our services.

Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the Resident Labour Market Test. For further information and to self-assess the likelihood of obtaining a Certificate of Sponsorship, please visit the UK Border Agency website. Note: we will be unable to obtain Tier 2 sponsorship for Bank positions.

Please note that we may close this vacancy early if we receive a high volume of applicants.
