Gloucestershire have been successful in gaining ‘Trailblazer’ status to take forward the government vision and commitment to develop integrated mental health teams in schools, Gloucestershire is developing four new Mental Health Support Teams to work with primary and secondary schools within Gloucestershire to increase access to mental health interventions for children and young people aged 5-16 years.

This brings an exciting opportunity to recruit six Band 6 qualified clinicians to join the Mental Health Support Teams (MHST’s) which are multi agency teams comprising of qualified Primary Mental Health Workers (PMHW’s), TiC+ Counsellors (a local charity) and Band 4/5 Trainee Education Mental Health Practitioners (EMHP’s). EMHP’s are a new and innovative addition to the children’s mental health workforce and as a Band 6 clinician, part of your job role will be providing formal supervision to these practitioners. To become a recognised EMHP Supervisor, you will be expected to attend a 10 day CYP/IAPT Supervisors Training course provided by the University of Exeter. Key elements of the job purpose are to:

  • Deliver a range of mental health interventions within primary and secondary schools, (including special schools) in line with the key aims of the Gloucestershire Mental Health Support Teams (MHST’s). This may involve group work or direct work with children/young people as well as offering specialist consultation and advice to teaching staff.
  • Undertake specified training to become a formal supervisor to a number of Band 5 Education Mental Health Practitioners who will be offering low intensity evidence based CBT interventions to children and young people
  • Be responsible and ensure the effective co-ordination of clinical care provided within schools including consideration to safeguarding and clinical risk issues where indicated
  • Demonstrate commitment to ensuring routine outcome monitoring is embedded within the developing Mental Health Support Teams in order to demonstrate improvements in outcomes for children, young people and parents/carers.

All CYPS Registered Practitioners hold a generic job description, however specialist skills and responsibilities related to working within this work role will be clearly reflected within a personalised job plan.

This post requires the post holder to be able to undertake all statutory and mandatory trainingand post holders must be able to undertake physical interventions. Fitness for physical intervention will be assessed by Occupational Health.

Applicants should note that all appointments to 2gether NHS Foundation Trust (excluding Medical Staffing appointments) are subject to the completion of a satisfactory 6 month probation period.

Please be aware that all employees of the Trust who need to have a DBS check in order to carry out their role, will be required to repay the cost, which is currently £50 for an enhanced check or £32 for a standard check.
