This replacement post offers an exciting opportunity to join an already highly successful, clinical, analytical and research group with a national profile in anti-infective analysis and therapeutic drug monitoring as well as international standing in the area of pharmacokinetics and dynamics (PK-PD).

 

The Antimicrobial Reference Laboratory (ARL) at North Bristol NHS Trust provides a national antimicrobial assay service for the NHS and private sector. It is interlinked with the Bristol Centre for Antimicrobial Research and Evaluation (BCARE) which carries out research in the area of PK-PD and supports human PK studies.

 

Housed in newly constructed Pathology laboratories, it is part of Infection Sciences which is a partnership between Public Health England and North Bristol NHS Trust to provide infection services in Bristol and the surrounding area. The ARL is currently staffed by two Clinical Scientists with a range of support staff.

 

Applicants should possess an MSc and/or PhD, and be registered as either a Clinical Scientist or Biomedical Scientist with the HCPC. The ARL provides a wide range of antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal drug assays, as well as advice service on therapeutic drug monitoring of these agents. There is a significant research component with grants received from EU IMI related to antimicrobial drug development, MRC (UK), NIHR, and various commercial sources.

 

The laboratory has UKAS ISO 15189 accreditation.

 

The post holder will be expected to provide supervisory support in the ARL in the areas of assay development, assay delivery, departmental management especially in training & competency, Health & Safety and participating in the clinical rota.
