Applicants are required for the post of Specialist Biomedical Scientist within the Blood Sciences laboratory at Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust.

The successful applicant will be a qualified Biomedical Scientist who will be part of a team working in the various sections of a busy and Quality-driven Blood Sciences Department offering a wide range of services. Applicants must be state registered with the HCPC and have a minimum of 2 years post registration experience in a Blood Sciences Laboratory and a Specialist Portfolio or equivalent post graduate qualification.

As a Specialist Biomedical Scientist, the post holder will perform routine duties within Haematology, Coagulation and Blood Transfusion and further specialise in the Coagulation Department. This will include day-to-day operation of the Coagulation Section of the laboratory and support of downstream functions.

The successful applicant is expected to gain a wide understanding of analytical principles, expert knowledge of analyser functions and advanced troubleshooting procedures, including a moderate understanding of laboratory informatics.
The main duties in the Coagulation section include all aspects of analysis, including, training and writing of protocols. A new analytical platform will be introduced in the near future and the post holder will be involved in the introduction and validation of this equipment. The post holder will assist departmental senior staff in the ongoing assessment of workflow through the section, generating and assessing KPI data and implementing LEAN principles. The post holder is expected to support and provide guidance to less experienced Biomedical Scientists and Pathology Support Workers.

The post holder will be working with state of the art equipment, and having substantial input into workflow planning and routine running of a large section of this busy laboratory. The wide variety of work and expertise available at Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital provides an ideal environment for a Specialist Biomedical Scientist to develop.
All Biomedical Scientists are expected to participate fully in the local shift pattern once assessed as competent, and will be expected to work at both Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital sites.

Hull’s location offers its resident’s great transport links to Europe and the beautiful Yorkshire Wolds and Coast is on our doorstep.
