Gloucestershire’s Children & Young People Service (CYPS) provides high quality specialist Mental Health and Learning Disability Services to children and young people, with locality bases in Stroud, Cheltenham and Gloucester. We are based at Evergreen House in Cheltenham but cover a large geographical area.

This is an excellent opportunity to work in the Children’s Learning Disability Service. We are seeking a highly motivated and committed individual to join our team. The role involves holding a clinical caseload of children and young people with moderate-severe learning disabilities.

The team offers assessment and interventions for children experiencing mental health or emotional difficulties, complex behavioural difficulties that are disrupting everyday life including sleep difficulties. We adopt a Positive Behaviour Support model throughout our work and where possible adopt the Team Around the Child approach to meeting the family’s needs.

Applicants should have experience of working with people with a learning disability; experience of working with children is desirable but not essential.This post involves working with individuals with high levels of challenging behaviour and requires the applicant to be confident in effectively managing such situations within a variety of community settings. Positive Behaviour Management training is given annually and support systems are in place for lone working in the community.

You will have excellent communication skills and a strong desire to work with families and young people to improve health outcomes. You should be aware of safeguarding children procedures and be proficient at care planning and risk assessment . The post holder should be highly organised and confident at managing their time effectively.

The post holder will be required to work closely with a variety of multi-agency professional teams within Gloucestershire including education and social care, as well as with multi-disciplinary teams within the wider CYPS setting.

This post requires the post holder to be able to undertake all statutory and mandatory training and post holders must be able to undertake physical interventions. Fitness for physical intervention will be assessed by Occupational Health.

Applicants should note that all appointments to 2gether NHS Foundation Trust (excluding Medical Staffing appointments) are subject to the completion of a satisfactory 6 month probation period.

Please be aware that all employees of the Trust who need to have a DBS check in order to carry out their role, will be required to repay the cost, which is currently £50 for an enhanced check or £32 for a standard check.
