We have an exciting and innovative opportunity for a Physiotherapist to join our new Ward Therapist role at Southmead Hospital. This opportunity would suit a new graduate or someone looking for a breadth of NHS physiotherapy experience. We are looking for a motivated, dynamic and highly skilled physiotherapist to provide holistic respiratory care to patients within the respiratory HDU environment working within the nursing team with strong working links with the ward physiotherapy team.

Based on the respiratory HDU area, you will provide support and expertise to the Nursing staff and patients. This will include:

    • Set up of AIRVO, BIPAP, Humidified Oxygen.
    • Chest drain, , feeding pumps set up and management
    • Undertake Observations , monitoring NEWS and acting upon trends.
    • Patient personal care and assisting patients with and advising on mobility 
    • Managing patient’s tissue viability needs.
    • Managing patient’s VTE needs
    • Assisting with trache weaning in conjunction with the Physiotherapy team, particularly out of core Physio hours.

 

    • Assisting patients with Chest clearance techniques, performing suction when required and advising other staff on effective chest clearance methods.
    • Liaison with community teams re follow up for patients in the community
    • Discharge planning and taking a lead for SRF completion.
    • Checking and stocking the equipment trolley
    • Facilitating nursing assessments, both computerised and in medical notes

 

This is a new role with qualified band 5 therapists working as a member of the ward staffing skill mix and line managed by the ward manager, while remaining under professional mentorship of the physiotherapy team leader.

The ward therapy post will provide an excellent opportunity for the physiotherapists to develop extended skills and acute ward experience under the guidance and mentorship of an experienced ward manager and senior physiotherapist.
