University Hospitals of Leicester in partnership with Dementia UK have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and motivated nurse to lead and develop our new Admiral Nursing Service in the Trust


We are seeking to recruit an exceptional individual with a passion for, and significant experience of, providing person-centred and relationship-centred dementia care. The post holder will have vision and energy to provide clinical and professional leadership to develop and deliver this new initiative in the Trust. You will need to combine working directly with patients and families alongside supporting best practice in health and social care professionals.


As the Admiral Nurse Clinical Lead you will be responsible for developing and delivering this new service calling on your impressive knowledge of holistic and therapeutic working in order to improve the experience of carer’s / families affected by dementia during their acute stay and across care transitions.


The successful appointee will demonstrate the ability to develop this new service and have a passion for advancing clinical practice in this field, enhancing staff knowledge and skills as well as developing innovative ideas to enhance care for patients and families.


You will possess a natural personal resilience to inspire and motivate staff and promote a positive culture to improve care for people living with dementia, improving patient experience and ensuring dignity is at the forefront of care provided.


Employed by University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, and primarily based at Leicester Royal Infirmary, you will be supported by Dementia UK to maintain and strengthen your clinical expertise as a specialist nurse through one-to-one intensive support from a dedicated Consultant Admiral Nurse during the first six months of the service. There will be on-going monthly clinical supervision and practice and professional development. You’ll become part of a network of Admiral Nurses, and will have the opportunity to access relevant post-graduate courses and develop professionally, informed by the Admiral Nurse Competency Framework. We appreciate this is a specialised area and together UHL and Dementia UK are committed to supporting your continual professional development and leadership capability in The Admiral Nurse role.
