We are expanding our medical laboratory assistant team and require new staff to join us.


Frontier Pathology is a joint venture between Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust and Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust. We are an innovative partnership of NHS pathology services, established to secure and develop pathology services for clinicians and their patients in Brighton, Surrey and Sussex.


We provide pathology services in a wide variety of settings, serving our founding Trusts, other NHS and private hospitals and primary care organisations.


The service is divided into Clinical Bacteriology, Clinical Virology, and the Environmental departments.


The post will involve supporting the department in providing diagnostic services and includes include data entry; manual, semi-automated and automated technical procedures; dealing with telephone enquiries; storekeeping; stock control; and laboratory waste disposal.


The successful candidate will be expected to participate fully in the accreditation activities of the department. The successful applicant must be conscientious and enthusiastic and able to work well as part of a team and under pressure.


The successful applicant must also have good communication and IT skills.


Relevant experience would be an advantage and full training will be provided.


The laboratory provides a 7 day service and an extended day and the successful applicant will be required to participate in the shift system.


This post is primarily based at Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton but services are provided at all sites (Crawley Hospital, Princess Royal Hospital and Royal Sussex County Hospital) and the successful applicant will be expected to work and attend meetings across all 3 sites of Frontier Pathology if required.


  • Posts in the Trust are subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal spent and unspent convictions, reprimands, and cautions.

  • Appointment to this role will commence at the lowest salary point unless confirmed otherwise by HR Employment Services (Recruitment, Administration & Terms and Conditions)

  • We may also use this advert to build our Bank staff. If you are unsuccessful at interview for a substantive role but meet the BSUH standards you may be offered a bank post.
