The Role


Candidates are invited to apply for the above post for a fixed term 12 month contract starting in March 2019, or as soon as possible. The role will be based in an innovative Paediatric Unit in East London at Homerton University Hospital. It is a trauma unit and was the designated hospital for the 2012 Olympic Games. It is within walking distance to Homerton Overground station, with easy access to major transport links.

The post offers training in a wide range of Emergency, Ambulatory and General Paediatrics within a multicultural community, providing an invaluable wealth of clinical experience. You will join a team of nine consultants, six middle grade staff (ST4-8) and 8 SHOs (ST1-3), working within a multidisciplinary team. The 18 bed Starlight Ward & Children’s Emergency Area sees over 25,000 children a year. There is a daily consultant led handover and ward round.

Educational and training opportunities are the same for Specialist trainees and Trust doctors, you will be allocated an educational supervisor. The Starlight Paediatric Unit has a daily teaching programme for junior medical staff. All staff are encouraged to participate in departmental audit/quality improvement. There are close links with the tertiary services at Royal London & Great Ormond Street Hospitals and post holders are encouraged to gain further experience in onsite tertiary Paediatric clinics. We have a high success rate for Trust doctors obtaining their membership examinations and National Training Numbers. We are a regional simulation centre and there is regular in situ simulation training for all staff. We are one of four units in London accredited for Paediatric Emergency Medicine grid training. The post holder will work on a full shift system (48 hours/ Band 1A), however, slot share/part time hours will be considered. International medical Graduates and those wishing to work less than full time are welcome to apply for these posts.
