The merger of University Hospital of South Manchester (UHSM Wythenshawe) and Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CMFT) on the 1st October 2017, now known as Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, is the largest organisation across the NHS.

The Wythenshawe Hospital site of MFT is a major acute university teaching hospital providing services to adults and children, serving a population of approximately 600,000. Patients come from outside the region to access tertiary services such as cardiothoracic surgery, burns, transplant, respiratory medicine and adult cystic fibrosis.

The pathology department at Wythenshawe Hospital and are seeking applications from experienced and enthusiastic Associate Practitioners with a Foundation Degree in Health Care Science (or equivalent), with a passion for clinical excellence, quality and a drive for career development to work within the Biochemistry laboratory supporting the biomedical scientists.

The successful candidate will be expected to work within the Mass spectrometry section of Clinical Biochemistry participating in the routine work of the analytical area under the supervision of the Biomedical Scientific staff. Duties will include sorting, labelling, data handling and processing of potentially hazardous specimens, basic preparation of mobile phases and reagents, manual sample preparation techniques, stock management, basic analyser maintenance, handling of laboratory waste and also assisting with organising and maintaining data quality.

The candidates will require at least 12 months laboratory experience and have of obtained skills and techniques within the laboratory environment. Capability in following standard operating procedures, good organisation skills, and the ability to work both in a team and individually are essential.

Wythenshawe hospital is situated in South Manchester and has excellent transport links to Manchester city centre and the surrounding areas via the M56 and M60 motorways and also the Airport metrolink line.

The department also has full UKAS ISO 15189/22870 accreditation for Laboratory and POCT and holds full HCPC training status.
