University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMBT) invites applications for a Haematology Technical Services Manager The successful applicant will be based at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary site in the new Blood Sciences laboratory whilst working across all sites of UHMBT.


The position is a permanent and full time post and offers an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified applicant seeking a career development into a senior management role within Pathology.


The successful applicant will be HCPC registered and have experience in departmental management and leadership, including: budget holder responsibility, staff recruitment and provision of a 24/7 clinical service.


The post holder will be required to continue the leadership of the service through transition to ISO15189:2012 - Medical Laboratory Accreditation.


The post holder will be responsible for leading Haematology and Blood Transfusion at UHMBT through transitional development including the current NHSI collaboration project incorporating North Lancashire and South Cumbria Pathology services.


You will be responsible for facilitating the planning and delivery of workforce development within these services and for providing and fostering effective leadership and communication within the Haematology department. The post holder is expected to communicate effectively both within and outside of the organisation, with commissioners, referrers and other service providers.


As budget holder for services you must ensure the implementation of financial management arrangements, including allocation of budgets and effective management control in line with the Trust’s Standing Financial Instructions. You will be an authorised signatory for Haematology and be responsible for the procurement of equipment and supplies.

Anyone newly appointed to the trust will be subject to the completion of a satisfactory 6 month probationary period (this includes bank staff). This will give the new staff member an opportunity to become familiar with the role and working environment.
