An enthusiastic and well-motivated specialist (band 6) occupational therapist is required to join our rehabilitation team. The main purpose of the post is to manage the occupational therapy needs of an in-patient caseload with the support of your band 7 therapist and wider team, across the acute surgical and respiratory wards. There will also be a number of medical or orthopedic outliers.

Our team has been re-configured and you will be an integral part of shaping how the care and service is delivered.

We consist of an advanced occupational therapist and a number of rotational band 5s, static 6s, band 4s and therapy assistants. You will work closely with our physiotherapy and nursing colleagues and various members of the multidisciplinary team. You will also be required to work independently and safely under your own initiative, providing senior guidance and supervision to junior colleagues, at times in the absence of senior colleagues.

You will need good time-management skills to manage the high patient turn around and be committed to multi-disciplinary working. You will also supervise other members of the surgical occupational therapy team to help facilitate the development of others.

Managing a caseload of complex (including palliative) patients, planning intervention and discharge in a timely manner will require excellent prioritization skills.

You will be supported in your own personal development and have regular supervision to progress your assessment and treatment skills with these patients. We are looking for a team member with excellent written, I.T. and verbal communication skills, who is able to manage their time and is willing to apply their own initiative to further develop the service for the future.

The working hours for this post will be full-time 37.5 hours Monday to Friday - Based at Warrington Hospital, Lovely Lane, Warrington, WA5 1QG

All posts are subject to NHS Employment Check Standards including a DBS check, if applicable. Depending on the classification of the post, in-line with DBS guidelines, a Standard or Enhanced disclosure will be required which may include a check of the ‘Vulnerable Adults List’, the ‘Children’s List’ and/or the Independent Safeguarding Authorities (ISA’s) barred lists.

A charge of £39 (Standard) or £60 (Enhanced) will be made by the successful candidate which will be deducted from the first 3 months’ salary. In addition to this, you will also be required to re-pay any future costs that may arise in relation to DBS fees.

NB. Current employees of Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust who have had a satisfactory DBS check, carried out by this Trust during the last 3 years, will not be required to undertake a new one. Where staff have not had a check (classification appropriate to the post offered) within the last 3 years, they will be required to undertake and pay for this, as per the arrangements above.
