The Role

Salary: £77,913 - £105,042 + Relocation Package + Recruitment Premium

Welcome to Devon Partnership Trust! We would like to invite you to apply for the consultant psychiatrist post to lead the inpatient care of people aged 18-65 years old at Coombehaven Ward, a 16-bed ward within the Cedars, Exeter. The ward is strongly recovery-focused working closely with those using the service to improve experience, care and outcomes and links closely to the Crisis and Home treatment and community teams. The ward is Royal College of Psychiatrists AIMS accredited and rated Good by the CQC in 2018.

The ward is within the campus of Trust Headquarters, Wonford House, Exeter together with PICU and Mother and Baby, Rehabilitation and Eating Disorders wards and Mental Health Place of Safety. The locality Crisis and Home Treatment, Community Mental Health and Eating Disorders Teams, psychotherapy services as well as Psychiatric Liaison are based on the same site. Wonford House sits adjacent to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital and University of Exeter Medical School.

The leadership team consists of a senior nurse manager, ward manager and three assistant ward managers. There are a dedicated discharge coordinator and psychologist. Primary care support for physical health is being developed.

Patient safety and Quality Improvement are key aspects of the role and training will be provided if required. Programmed Activities are negotiable for research, teaching, medical management and other special interests.

Training future psychiatrists is an essential part of the role and you will supervise two trainee doctors on the ward and medical students during attachments. Support will be provided to enable you to train ST4-6 doctors if you wish.

You will take part in on-call rota of 1 in 18 and be paired with another consultant to provide cross-cover for leave. You will be well supported by a dedicated full-time medical staffing department.

This post is suitable as a first NHS consultant post or for an existing or post-retirement consultant with a broad level of general adult psychiatric expertise. International candidates are welcome to apply. Experience of working in adult inpatient mental health services is preferable but support will be given to doctors wishing to move from other psychiatric specialties or roles.

Approved Clinician status at appointment is preferable but those who would be eligible eg doctors applying from abroad, will be supported to obtain this authority.

A mentor and peer group will be provided. You will have 2.5 Supporting Programmed Activities (10 hours a week) to support your professional development, attend your monthly peer group, quarterly medical advisory committee and local post-graduate meetings.
