We are pleased to advertise for a Consultant Clinical Geneticist (general genetics and rare diseases). This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to join our team within the Clinical Genetics Department based at Chapel Allerton Hospital, Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. 

As well as serving the population of Leeds, the Trust is a major tertiary and regional Clinical Genetics referral centre. This post will provide the appropriately skilled, successful applicant the opportunity of working within the Clinical Genetics specialty team. This is a replacement post in in general (non-cancer) genetics, with the opportunity to develop a specialist interest to complement the department’s existing services. 

Applicants should be included on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview, if currently within a training programme within the UK.  In accordance with the consultant appointment regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the Specialist Register. 

Applicants should have established skills in Clinical Genetics and its related specialties. A strong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and a research interest would also be desirable.

Consideration will be given to applicants who wish to work full or part time and those wishing to job share. 

If shortlisted, you will be required to give a 10 minute presentation on: 

“How to deliver the benefits and mitigate the risks of mainstreaming genetic testing.”

For Band 1 roles the Trust will pay the cost of the DBS checks and refund to you the cost of the update service. DBS checks for volunteers are free.
