University Hospitals of Leicester is a large teaching hospital, with plans to redesign and invest in the future of Maternity and Neonatal services; by combining services from the Leicester General Hospital and the Leicester Royal Infirmary (LRI) into a new bespoke maternity building at the LRI site.

The Leicester Royal Infirmary is a Tertiary Centre for High Risk Obstetric patients, and we are recruiting Operating Department Practitioners and Registered Nurses with a vision to help us build and develop our Theatre service. As part of this highly regarded team, you will be involved in caring for patients undergoing planned and emergency Obstetric procedures covering a 24/7 service.

Experience within this area is advantageous; however training will be given to the right candidate. We are proud to offer a quality training package to Theatre practitioners, supported by experienced Theatre Practitioners with a specialist interest in Obstetrics and a dedicated theatre practice development team.

Successful candidates will undertake a period of training on a supernumerary basis, tailored to the individuals experience and learning needs. You will also be assigned a development lead, enabling us to provide a supportive environment conducive to your learning and development. In addition, you will be closely supervised to allow you to build confidence in your abilities, practical skills and knowledge under close guidance. Preceptorship packages are also available for Newly Qualified Nurses and Operating Department Practitioners.

The Obstetric and Emergency Gynaecology Theatre is a friendly team with excellent leadership. We understand the importance of helping you to develop personally and professionally, and inspire our staff to progress within the team and their careers by completing a nationally recognised anaesthetic course allowing for a flexible working team which can adapt to the Emergency situation (for Registered Nurses) and degree level modules relevant to theatre practice. The position also offers the opportunity to rotate through Emergency theatres; allowing you to enhance your skills and knowledge within this field.
