The Care of the Elderly & Stroke Department at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, is seeking to appoint a Consultant Physician in Stroke Medicine or a Care of the Elderly Physician with an interest in Stroke Medicine.

This post is an excellent opportunity to provide outstanding patient care in an Acute Stroke Unit (ASU) at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. Our patients have their HASU care at either Doncaster, Pinderfields or Sheffield. The successful candidate is expected to lead service development and innovation to improve patient care. The appointee would be responsible for assessing and providing evidence-based care to post HASU stroke patients as well as reviewing outpatients and providing TIA clinics as per job plan.

As a member of the South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Regional Stroke Service, you will have the opportunity to work in the South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw ICS, one of the leading integrated care systems in the country as part of a networked service. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to participate in the regional thrombolysis Rota for out of hours/overnight thrombolysis/thrombectomy decisions if suitably trained.

This new way of working means that as part of a hosted network, there will be more opportunities for staff; including ongoing skill and career development, continual learning and peer support and the potential for increased opportunities in research and innovation.

This post is remunerated at 10 PAs plus remuneration for on call. It is a replacement post. This post will be the second WTE for Stroke services. You will receive mentoring and support for this role and it is envisaged there will be regular feedback meetings. Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching will be expected. The Trust has a good record in getting candidates through PACES.

Funding is available for up to full-time working, although candidates who are available part-time are also encouraged to apply. Any consultant who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post; if such a person is appointed modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.

Standard Check: £18.00 + Administration cost of £3.69 = deduction from salary as a one-off payment


Enhanced Check: £38.00 + administration cost of £3.69 = £13.69 deduction from 1st months’ salary, then deduction from salary over following 3 months.
