We are looking for a knowledgeable, enthusiastic, motivated and hard-working data protection professional with excellent communication and interpersonal skills to become a member of our highly respected and very busy Information Governance (IG) Team.
The role is on a hybrid worker basis, with the official base being either at our main HQ in Exeter or at our north HQ in Bristol. Attendance at base will be required on a weekly basis, depending on Government guidelines and Directorate requirements, and the remaining time will be spent working from home.
The role requires the post-holder to take responsibility for the operational management of all aspects of IG, with specific focus on areas such as Freedom of Information Requests (FoI), Subject Access Requests (SAR) and supporting and mentoring what is a new and enthusiastic team.
The post-holder will also lead on all external information sharing advice and related documentation, Data Protection Impact Assessments and the IG sections of contracts. This will require a meticulous eye for detail, an ability to recognise gaps in documentation, and, with the support of the Head of Information, the ability to negotiate with staff and 3rd party companies on all aspects of data protection legislation, protecting the Trust's interests.
Main duties
The post-holder will help to develop and deliver the Trust's Information Governance Strategy and supporting policies, to ensure it meets its legal and service responsibilities for this agenda, and the requirements of the Data Security and Protection Toolkit.
In addition to supporting the overall IG stratedy, broad IG knowledge and experience is essential as the postholder will offer staff cover and general support for all other areas of data protection legislation, such as IG breach and complaint management, general compliance queries, SAR and FoI requests and redaction.
The role requires excellent report writing skills, a flexible attitude towards changing priorities, an approachable and friendly manner, and the ability to field a variety of general queries from all levels of staff, external organisations and the public. The job involves managing and mentoring staff with a coaching, compassionate leadership style.
We would like to recruit someone keen to learn and develop their own potential, a team player who can work on their own initiative and has the values of the Department and the Trust at heart. The post-holder must be able to form excellent working relationships with a wide variety of staff groups, along with the desire to work as part of a close knit team. The post-holder will need to put IG issues into everyday language, and be able to apply their knowledge in different situations appropriately.
