About the role:

We are seeking a career anaesthetist in Plymouth who is ready to join a small team of dedicated clinicians striving for excellence in an efficient unit whose main workload is orthopaedics but also includes general surgery.

We pride ourselves in striving for excellence and innovation and are developing daycase major arthroplasty pathways, adherence to GIRFT ideals as well as trialling and introducing new implants.

We are proud to support NHS orthopaedic trainees in the region and encourage training to the point of having a fellow within the surgical team, something almost unique in privately run hospitals.

As a consultant anaesthetist in our team you will be involved with all aspects of the patient pathways from pre-assessment, through peri-operative and post-operative ward management and will be expected to be conversant in a range of anaesthetic techniques with particular skills in daycase anaesthesia, resuscitation and regional techniques appropriate to our wide range of operative procedures which in orthopaedics involve all major joints.

The quoted salary is based on a 4-day week of 10 hrs per day in line with a normal 10PA job plan but there are opportunities for additional work in the week and financial incentives, above this, for efficient lists. The on call is light and covered between the team and mainly based on advice to the Resident Medical Officer. Support PAs are built into the job plan in addition to the monthly governance meetings and we actively support ongoing CME and training.

At Practice Plus Group we believe in supporting each other and sharing best practice and you would be expected to become an integral part of our team of consultants led by the Medical Director, Hospital Director and Senior leadership management team as well as attending meetings and contributing to teaching of our centre staff.

About You

With a current registration with the GMC’s specialist register of anaesthetists you’ll have several years’ experience, at least 2 of which are within the UK. You are committed to your own continuing medical education and professional development. We will also support you to ensure ongoing medical competence through participation in the annual revalidation and reaccreditation schemes of the GMC and the Royal College of Anaesthetists. As well as providing mandatory training through our excellent in-house education programme. We could even give you the opportunity to develop into a specialist role of your interest.
