  • To be a caring, flexible and supportive place to work
  • To deliver the best value for money

Are you a registered adult / child / mental health / learning disabilities nurse or a midwife? Would you like to work a fixed working pattern with no nights, weekends or bank holidays? Would you enjoy working with children, young people and their families to deliver health promotion?

If so, we have a great opportunity for you to join our Public Health Nursing 5-19 Team in Southampton!

Our team provides physical health and emotional wellbeing support to the children, young people and their families who live or are educated in the city of Southampton. This includes those children and young people who are attending mainstream schools (Primary and Secondary), Colleges & Sixth Forms, special schools and those who are home educated.

We provide advice and support on topics such as healthy lifestyles, vision and hearing concerns, long term conditions advice, sleep support, healthy growth and development advice and much more. We are also the health representative in multi-agency cases where professionals are working together to support a family. The Healthy Child Programme underpins the work that we do, and we are actively involved in the Safeguarding processes around children and young people. We are working towards a 0-19 workforce and work closely with our health visiting colleagues in the 0-5 team.

We are a friendly, welcoming and supportive team and like to encourage and develop people’s skills. Within this role there is the option to develop further and undertake the Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (SCPHN) qualification should you so desire. We welcome new ways of thinking to help engage with the children and young people we work with and are keen to change practice to meet the needs of the community and our team.

We work over a variety of settings in the community, including schools, family hubs and patients homes. Being able to travel throught the day and carry equipment is essential through the use of your own vehicle. We have an expenses system where you are able to claim back milage rates and parking expenses for work journeys made.
