British Pregnancy Advisory Service (BPAS) is the UK’s largest independent women’s reproductive healthcare charity. We work mainly on behalf of the NHS across the country providing abortion, contraception, STI testing & treatment. Soon we are launching BPAS Fertility. We specialise in evidence-based, not-for-profit care.

BPAS Fertility are looking to appoint a gynaecologist to take medical responsibility for our recently established and successful assisted conception service in London.

This is an exciting opportunity which needs a highly motivated individual prepared to think out of the box and be comfortable with working in an innovative service model which challenges common practice.

About BPAS Fertility:

This service has been established in response to both very limited NHS funding and the rising costs of private assisted conception treatment. BPAS fertility comprises a full assisted conception service in London and satellite units in Peterborough and Swindon where nurses/midwives carry out consultations, ultrasound scans and cycle management.

About the role:

The successful applicant will have overall medical responsibility for the new assisted conception service and will have the opportunity to have a significant contribution in shaping and growing BPAS fertility. There will be opportunities to participate in research projects and in-service development.

Other duties include:

  • To be responsible for Egg collections and Embryo transfers
  • To carry out patient consultations and pre-treatment assessments if needed, ensuring that patients questions are fully answered, and they understand the process fully.
  • To undertake transabdominal and transvaginal ultrasound scanning for cycle monitoring and ovarian reserve assessments.
  • To perform Surgical sperm collection under local anaesthesia or under conscious sedation.
  • To perform Fluid sonogram, HyCoSy
  • To perform Ultrasound guided paracentesis5.7 To carry out Hysteroscopy as an outpatient.

About you:

BPAS is looking for a gynaecologist with significant experience in working in an assisted conception unit, knowledge of the HFEA Code of Practice and previous experience in research and teaching. They will have completed subspecialty training in reproductive medicine and be on the General Medical Council’s Specialist Register.

They will join a team of highly skilled and motivated nurses, midwives, doctors, embryologists, administrators and counsellors to collaboratively provide excellent not-for-profit, patient-centred, evidence-based fertility treatment.

Salary: Competitive - negotiable depending on experience

Hours: Part time or full-time hours will be considered. Please state your preference on your application form.

There is a requirement for the successful candidate to be part of an on-call rota (1 in 4 weeks) this will attract extra renumeration.
