Isle of Wight NHS Trust
LD and MH
Newport, Isle of Wight
Band 8a

We’re thrilled that you are thinking of joining us.

Why wouldn’t you choose the Isle of Wight NHS Trust?

We serve a population of approximately 150,000 residents, making the services we offer variable and personalised with a flexible approach to our service users. Every day brings a fresh challenge to our staff and being part of our island gives you the opportunity to work as one cohesive team.

The Isle of Wight is a unique and stunning gem located off the South Coast of England, a short ferry journey from Portsmouth and Southampton, with journey times taking from as little as 10 minutes. London can be reached in 90 minutes by rail from Southampton or Portsmouth. There is a regional airport at Southampton, with flights to many European destinations as well as UK mainland cities The island offers our visitors and residents an amazing coastline with beautiful countryside, year round events, festivals and award-winning attractions..

Our top priority in the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic is to protect our patients, our staff and our community.

Where possible, interviews are currently being conducted remotely via Microsoft Teams.

Until further notice, all patients and visitors to Isle of Wight Trust sites will be required to wear a face covering.

At the IOW NHS Trust we are committed to putting the safety and care of our patients first, as well as helping us to protect you and your colleague and therefore we would recommend that you are vaccinated against COVID-19 and that you understand that we are treating COVID-19 positive patients within our services.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our cohesive community children and adolescent mental health (CAMHS) team on the Isle of Wight, CQC rated Good. Through COVID the service has actively focussed on modelling expansion initiatives, as a result gaining new funding for our well-established psychology provision.

Our team is multidisciplinary consisting of 30 staff who work together to provide both crises and longer-term therapeutic interventions to children and young people on the Island who are experiencing emotional and mental health difficulties. We also offer a specialist Eating Disorder Service. The service is a fully inclusive service for all 0–18-year-olds and work with children and young people who have a wide range of mental health conditions with some of our young people also living with additional comorbidities including intellectual disabilities, physical health conditions and neurodevelopmental difficulties.

Our Psychologists reach across all core functions of the service, making it possible for these new posts to be individualised to suit both highly experienced applicants who are looking to further develop areas of specialism as their career progresses, or applicants wanting to build experience and be supported in moving into an 8a role in a CAMHS setting.

The team are excited to welcome more psychology colleagues and value the diversity of skills clinical psychologists can contribute in relation to therapeutic interventions, consultation, supervision, reflective practice, teaching and training, service development and research/audit knowledge.

We have strong links with the clinical psychology doctoral training course at the University of Southampton and provide training placements. This gives you the opportunity to become as a clinical supervisor or mentor and provides avenues for pursuing research and teaching interests.

Continued Professional Development is actively supported by the senior leads for the service and by the Wider Trust. We recognise how development of our professionals grows compassionate and evidence-based care for our young people and their families.

The team are passionate about ensuring the child’s voice is central to the work they do and working in partnership with families and other agencies to achieve the outcomes desired by the child or young person. We strive for high quality and innovative practice. We would love to hear from you if you value these things too.

The benefits of working for us:

  • £45,753-£51,668 (37.5 hrs per week)
  • Relocation allowance up to £3,000
  • Flexible working hours and opportunity to do some work from home
  • Wellbeing support and activities
  • Career development and training
  • Pension contribution
  • Clinical Supervision
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Free parking
  • Opportunities to progress and develop
  • Capped caseload of 25 cyp (whole time equivalent)

The Isle of Wight (IOW) is unique and beautiful place to come, work and live. We have many stunning beaches and countryside. There is something for everyone on the IOW.

The IOW overall average house price means you get more for your money compared to other places in the South East and be surrounded by stunning scenery. The CAMHS clinic on the Island is easily commutable from the mainland and has good transport links.

If you would like to discuss this opportunity further please call our Consultant Clinical Psychologist, Dr Andrea Burrow or our Team Lead, Cally Wareham on 01983 523602.
