On 1st February 2021 the Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals became part of Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust – a truly once-in a generation development. Together, we are taking our first steps towards our vision of creating a brand-new centre of excellence, which will be the global leader in the research into and treatment of heart and lung disease in patients from pre-birth to old age. We are developing some exciting plans and we want you to join us – so come and help to change the shape of healthcare for our heart and lung patients world-wide.

We are looking for highly motivated, enthusiastic staff nurses to join our friendly cardiology team within the cardiothoracic services unit.

York Ward is a 24 bedded cardio-respiratory ward with a multidisciplinary team of highly skilled and motivated staff, who provide high quality care to patients requiring a variety of specialist cardiac investigations such as interventional cardiology, EP ablations, and insertion of internal cardiac devices. We also provide specialist care for both heart failure and pre-cardiac/respiratory surgery patients. The ward also has responsibility for the nursing management of a 6 – 14 bedded day care unit, which you will also be required to work in.

You will support the Ward Manager and your colleagues to maintain a high standard of patient care and take charge of the ward on a regular basis. We’ll also look to you to act as a role model in supporting and developing junior members of the team.

About you

As a qualified staff nurse, you may already have experience of co-ordinating care on a ward. Now you’ll be ready for the next step in your career and keen to learn everything there is to know about cardio – respiratory nursing care. You will have strong communication skills and the ability to think on your feet.

Some knowledge of managing cardiology/respiratory patients in an HDU or CCU setting and a relevant post-registration cardiac teaching course would be desirable. Above all, you’ll need the ability to model best practice to Band 5 nurses and nursing students.

About us

We’re committed to the training and career development of staff and provide an in-house teaching programme to ensure you complete the clear cardio-respiratory competency pathway.

Join us in this role, and you will have the chance to broaden your professional horizons and develop your skills.
