Band 3 Therapy Link Worker –

Agnes Unit (Adult Learning Disabilities Service)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic individual who has previous experience of working within an inpatient Mental Health / Learning Disabilities setting to join the Occupational Therapy team at the Agnes Unit

The role will involve planning and delivering activities with inpatients that promote well-being, skill development and support patient’s discharge planning. It will be essential to develop therapeutic relationships with our service users, who will often be experiencing and presenting with complex physical and mental health needs alongside their learning disability.

You will be working with a team of 2 Occupational Therapists and therapy link workers, alongside the multi-disciplinary team. Your role will involve providing 1:1 and group interventions both within the unit and within the community setting. This role also includes working alongside other agencies, such as modelling to external care providers positive therapeutic interventions with patients as part of their transition from inpatient to community living.

You will need to be creative in ensuring that the programme of activities is responsive to patient’s needs, and is effective in promoting recovery. You will need to demonstrate an understanding of learning disability, mental health issues, communication skills and the impact these could have on a person’s ability to engage in activity. You will need to react to and manage changing situations and be perceptive to subtle changes in service user’s presentations in order to support optimal functional skill development whilst proactively managing risks. Additionally, you will also be expected to provide accurate verbal and written reports and contribute to relevant multi-disciplinary team meetings

The successful candidates will be supervised by an Occupational Therapist and work within the Occupational therapy philosophy.

Training and supervision will be provided.
