About the role

We're looking for an Operating Department Manager to lead our theatre team at our Merseyside unit. You will manage the operating department to ensure high standards of client care and safety alongside managing the flow of clients with efficiency.

BPAS Merseyside is a large and busy unit that offers a range of reproductive health services. As an Operating Department Manager, you'll be at the forefront of our surgical treatments and you will manage and mentor the theatre team for the direct delivery of client care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Liaise closely with surgeons and anaesthetists in the treatment and care provided to clients.
  • Manage and coordinate the work of all staff within the operating department, delegating responsibilities as appropriate.
  • Undertake effective monitoring of employee performance against professional standards and defined quality standards.
  • Ensure that the ordering, storage, checking and administration of drugs conforms to BPAS policy and standards of best practice.
  • Respect the clients dignity and to ensure that attention is given to client needs, requests and wishes.
  • Ensure that resuscitation and other emergency equipment and supplies are maintained for emergency situations and checked regularly.

About You

You'll be a registered ODP or Registered level 1 Adult Nurse or Midwife with experience in theatre. Although a qualification in operating department practice in either anaesthetics/recovery/scrub is desireable this is not essential. 

You'll have significant experience of working within an operating department and have experience of team management or supervision of staff. With the ability to remain calm under pressure along with your organisational skills, you will be able to motivate and lead the theatre team to deliver high standards of care.

We're also looking for:

  • Knowledge of clinical governance, NMC/HPC codes and ability to work within these.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbally.
  • Positive attitude towards change with the ability to work as an effective team leader.
  • Uses own initiative and able to make decisions whilst working with multiple priorities.

Further Information

Salary:£36,250 to £45,500 per annum pro rata (depending on skill and experience)

Working Pattern: 36 Hours per week

  • Tuesday 8am - 12pm
  • Wednesday 7.30am - 4pm
  • Thursday & Friday 7.30am - 5pm
  • Saturday 7.30am - 4pm. (Saturday working is paid at time and a half)
