Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust was formed in October 2019, following the merger of 2gether NHS Foundation Trust and Gloucestershire Care Services NHS Trust. The two Trusts joined together to provide integrated mental health, physical health and learning disability services to communities.


An opportunity has a arisen for an experienced individual to join our facilities team at Wotton Lawn Hospital located in Gloucester. Wotton Lawn is an 88-bed hospital divided across 6 wards providing specialist assessment, treatment and care for Working Aged Adults with functional mental health problems and people with dementia. The Facilities department provide catering, portering, housekeeping and laundry services on site and at other satellite units in the locality.

The role of porter is a highly valued but demanding role; therefore, the ideal candidate will need to have the ability to adapt to an ever-changing health care environment. The successful candidate will be an essential part of the team providing a comprehensive service to the hospital.

Duties will include but not limited to:

transportation of staff , car parking monitoring; delivery of post; cleaning and tidying of outside areas; collections of path-lab samples , Pharmacy runs, collection and delivery of stores, patient food, linen, waste, health records and reports. Trust transport is provided.

This post is full time and will require working 5 days a week Monday to Friday (which may include some weekend working as part of a normal working pattern) however ongoing flexibility is required as the successful applicant will be required to cover for annual leave and sickness and on occasion may be required to vary their hours or work at other sites within the Trust to support service and business demands. All shifts will include Bank Holidays working on a rota basis.

The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic, hardworking, reliable, organised team player with good communication skills with the experience of working in a busy environment where workloads are prioritised in accordance to service needs. The ability to understand and interpret instructions is essential for this post as is a clean and tidy appearance.

A valid UK driving licence plus the use of own transport for business purposes is essential. For qualifying staff the Trust has a Lease Car Scheme in place and also offers a popular Salary Sacrifice Car Scheme with our partner Tusker.

This post requires the post holder to be able to undertake all statutory and mandatory training and post holders must be able to undertake physical interventions. Fitness for physical intervention will be assessed by Occupational Health.
