The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is looking for a Nurse Practitioner to join our JAG Accredited Endoscopy Units. The successful candidate will be innovative and highly motivated, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

The Nurse Practitioner will have the ability to use their initiative and work within the unit’s multidisciplinary Endoscopy Team. The post incorporates the Nurse Practitioner role in bidirectional endoscopic procedures.

This role will also support the assessment clinics to triage patients through their diagnostic 2 week wait cancer pathway for forthcoming procedures. The successful candidate will also be expected to support other services within the GI surgical (or medical) directorate. They will manage their time effectively whilst providing patients with advice and guidance, within defined parameters and training.

The successful candidate will be a facilitator for training and education. Once qualified the post holder will be expected (after appropriate experience) to work towards becoming JAG approved trainer to develop future Endoscopists

Once fully trained, the candidate will be expected to train to become an Endoscopist within the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme working in the North of Tyne Screening Centre. This will encompass sites at both Newcastle Hospitals and units at Northumbria Healthcare Trust. Therefore a full driving licence is desirable.

The Endoscopy Service is working towards six day working and the provision of evening sessions so there will be a requirement to support this development and expansion of the diagnostic service.

Applicants must be a Registered General Nurse with post registration experience in Surgery or Medicine.

If you are currently a qualified Nurse Practitioner and hold a recognised JAG approved endoscopist qualification, this post is banded as a Band 7. If you are interested in undertaking an endoscopist training programme; this role is banded at a Band 6 level. After you have successfully completed the recognised JAG approved nurse endoscopist qualification then re grading will be expected. This process is expected to take around18 months.

Any successful candidate will be required to work flexibly across both hospital sites with some weekend and evening sessions and also in the Bowel Cancer Screening program (as specified above).

Full Time 37 Hours 30 Minutes/Week
