Consultant in Dermatology (3 x 10 PA contracts although flexible options will be considered for the right candidate)

Tameside & Glossop ICO are looking for dynamic and motivated individuals to expand our current dermatology department here at Tameside. The post holder will join a team of 2.6 WTE consultants, two GPs with special interests, two nurse practitioners and one specialist nurses and a full-time trainee registrar as part of the HEENW rotation (Health Education England North West).

The department offers a complete dermatology service to the residents of Tameside and Glossop. Consultants work at a single site which is the main acute hospital and nurse practitioners also visit local practices to deliver primary care clinics. The service includes general dermatology adult clinics and paediatric clinics which take place in children’s out-patients and benefits from all the services available in the paediatric department.

Dermatology surgery is performed in our dedicated and specially equipped dermatology minor operations room which is staffed by dermatology nurses.

Nurse-led Systemic clinics include adult and paediatric eczema and psoriasis clinics, dermatology surgery, skin cancer counselling and follow-up clinics, phototherapy, dressings, and iontophoresis.

The department hosts a well-functioning local skin MDT and consultants also attend a monthly in-house clinical meeting, and additionally have access to tertiary service clinical meeting discussion at SRFT. The service benefits from good working relationships with maxillofacial surgeons and from close liaison with colleagues in the paediatric department.

The post holders will be required to drive improvement in the service as required by patients, staff and the government, and to promote best practice in the management of all cases. This will include delivery of cancer pathways, outpatient clinics and minor surgical sessions. The roles will also include driving improvement in the service by facilitating training to junior doctors, assisting in pathway design to enhance the dermatology service offered to the local community. We are also keen to support any special interests that applicants may have been working towards.
