An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our established Play Service team at Sheffield Children’s Hospital. Our team has 23 staff in different roles including Play Service managers, Play Specialists, and Play leaders. Our team work across the trust in surgical, medical, outpatients and the emergency departments.

We are looking for a Play leader to join our Outpatients Team – the work will be mainly covering the emergency department but also main outpatients, and perhaps off main site at Ryegate and Northern General on a rota system. The hours are to suit the needs of the service, therefore we are recruiting for 5 day cover, starting work after 9 am.

We are looking for people who are able to provide appropriate play and recreation activities for children from 0 – 16 years, in clinical areas. You will also be expected to work with the team leader Play Specialist to deliver programmes of play and distraction in these areas. Whilst promoting the Play Service, and ensuring the environment is friendly, age appropriate and safe.

You should have good communication skills, enjoy working with children and young people and be able to use your own initiative. A play leader is expected to provide play sessions directly to children and young people. Please read job specification for further details of requirements of experience and qualifications.

The job is 37.5 hours a week, Monday to Friday, and you will be expected to work within a team rota – hours over 5 days. We would consider job share applications. The job is fixed term covering maternity leave until the post holder returns. There could be chance of more hours becoming available on either a temporary or permanent basis.

Interview date: 4th May 2021. There will be a group interview, then everyone will be interviewed individually. Interviews will be done via a Microsoft Teams video call, full details will be sent when interview offered.

In line with other NHS Organisations in the Yorkshire and Humber Region a successful candidate appointed into a post within this Trust will be required to pay the DBS check fee (£45). This is customarily payable over 4 months as a salary deduction once employed by the Trust. If you receive a conditional offer letter, complete your DBS application and later withdraw from the recruitment process, an invoice will be raised via the Trust's finance department to recoup the outlay.
