Trainee CBT Therapist

Led by Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, ‘Health in Mind’ and ‘Brighton and Hove Wellbeing Service’ provide a community-based range of evidence based therapeutic and clinical interventions to support adults with mild to moderate mental health needs. Based in the community and located primarily within SPFT venues and GP Practices, our service provides Increasing Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) at Step 2 and Step 3. We receive referrals from a number of routes including self-referrals and by General Practitioners.

‘Health in Mind’ (East Sussex) and ‘Brighton and Hove Wellbeing Service’ (Brighton, Hove & surrounding areas) are working in partnership to recruit to our cohort of trainee CBT Therapist positions, to start in September 2021. Please note that you will be expected to attend lectures in person in Brighton, as well as working on-site in one of our services.

As a Trainee Cognitive Behaviour Therapist you will form a key part of our established team, providing assessment and treatment to individuals referred to our service. A priority of your role will be to balance working within the service and seeing clients, alongside studying at the University of Sussex to work towards attaining a Post Graduate Diploma in Psychological Therapies. Good organisation and communication skills are essential in managing a packed and intensive training year.

Requirements

A successful candidate for the position of Trainee CBT Therapist within our IAPT services is:

  • A clinician with a core profession (please see the attached ‘BABCP Core Professions’ doc.) – This is an essential criterion for the position
  • Someone with significant experience working within mental health settings
  • In a position to commit fully to the intense 1-year course, considering any factors that could impact on your ability to complete the training

It is also desirable to have:

  • A willingness to learn and embrace feedback from peers and supervisors within the service and University
  • Some understanding of IAPT services and how we interact with the community
