Breast Clinician Credential Trainee

Salary scale: Specialty Doctor [MC46]

Applications are currently open as part of an exciting initiative to standardise training for breast clinicians across the UK.

The Breast Clinician role encompasses the clinical and breast imaging services, providing a holistic approach to all aspects of breast disease diagnosis and management. The posts offer comprehensive training in breast radiology, clinical skills and breast cancer risk analysis, and will enable candidates to become independent breast specialists and to lead family history clinics upon completion of the three year programme.

The Credential in Breast Disease Management is supported by Health Education England (HEE) and was developed by the Royal College of Radiologists (RCR), the Association of Breast Clinicians (ABC) and the National Breast Imaging Academy (NBIA) in 2019. If you are interested in breast disease management and have completed Foundation training, or are looking for a career change or family-friendly career, this unique training opportunity could be for you.

Posts are due to commence by August 2021 for a period of three years on a full time basis, or the less than full time equivalent duration. Applications from candidates wishing to work less than full time are welcomed. However, candidates must be able to work at least three days per week (i.e. 0.6WTE).

Successful candidates will be appointed to eligible NHS Trusts in England via a centralised recruitment process. The list of eligible Trusts will be made available to candidates at the time of invitation to interview.

If you would like further information regarding the training have a look at the Royal College of Radiologists’ website (link can be found in the Oriel vacancy hyperlinks tab), or email credentials@rcr.ac.uk.

Applicants must be fully registered with the General Medical Council and be eligible to work in the UK. The minimum entry criteria include evidence of Foundation competences or equivalent within the last 3.5 years, but we would welcome applicants with wider experience from other specialties or general practice. For full entry and selection criteria, please see the person specification.

These posts are not designed for established breast clinicians or those wishing to pursue a surgical career.

The application window opens on 1st March 2021 and closes at 16:00 29th March 2021.  You will not be able to submit your application after this time. Please ensure that you have completed all the relevant sections of the application form as missing information will deem your application incomplete and it will not be considered.

You must apply via the online recruitment system Oriel. Oriel can be accessed from the link provided.  Details of the selection process, including the person specification are also available within Oriel.

The interviews will be held on Thursday 29th April and Friday 30th April 2021.
