The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is looking for a Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our team, functioning within the Hepato-Pancreatico-Biliary Department (HPB). The successful candidate will be innovative and highly motivated, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

The Clinical Nurse Specialist will have the ability to use their initiative and work within the hospital Multidisciplinary HPB team. The post incorporates the Clinical Nurse Specialist role primarily with the management of patients diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis with a view to possible assessment for Total Pancreatectomy and Islet Auto Transplantation (TPIAT).

This role will coordinate all patients referred in for assessment of TPIAT. This is a supra-regional tertiary referral service one of only four in England. The successful candidate will be expected to triage patients through their diagnostic pathway for forthcoming investigations and procedures, as well as supporting other services within the GI surgical (or medical) directorate. They will manage their time effectively whilst providing patients with advice and guidance, within defined parameters and training. The candidate must have knowledge and experience in dealing with patients with complex health needs and symptoms such as diabetes, pain management and psychosocial issues. The ability to use enhanced communication and counselling skills will be an advantageous to this patient group

This post may also include some involvement with the support of patients who have a cancer diagnosis and the management of their needs, which includes communicating with the internal multidisciplinary team members as well as the regional teams.

The successful candidate will be a facilitator for training and education in relation to this service and will be expected to attend national meetings instrumental to this new service.

Any successful candidate may be required to work flexibly across both hospital sites.
