Specialist Occupational Therapist Lead – Palliative Care

A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, reliable and motivated Occupational Therapist with a minimum of 3 years post qualification experience to join our experienced multidisciplinary Specialist Palliative Care Team for a one-year fixed term maternity cover. We are also encouraging secondments as this is an excellent development opportunity.

The successful candidate will work as part of the community based, well-established, supportive team comprising of Clinical Nurse Specialists, Specialist Occupational Therapist, Specialist Physiotherapists, Doctors, Social workers and Psychologists. They will also work as the Solent Occupational Therapist Lead for the local hospice alongside hospice-based ward staff, physiotherapists and social workers providing assessment, discharge planning and ward based interventions to promote choice and independence for Portsmouth patients.

We pride ourselves on providing excellent assessment and emotional/psychological support, for patients and their families, with life shortening conditions and complex needs, enabling patients to be cared for according to their preferences. The team values close working relationships with clinicians in primary, secondary and social care, as well as the local hospice provider.

This role will have a high clinical focus, and whilst providing opportunity for leadership the interim nature of the role will prioritise patient care and fully utilise the successful candidate’s Specialist Occupational Therapy skills.
