Solent NHS Trust are delighted to have been successful in their bid to implement a Mental Health in Schools Teams (MHST’s) within Southampton City. There are currently 4 MHSTs in Southampton offering an almost city-wide coverage for this new and exciting addition of mental health provision for children and young people. Solent NHS Trust are currently recruiting a qualified Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP) to join the service. (Please note this is not a training post).
The development of these services are in collaboration with NHS England and the Department for Education, following on from the 2017 Green Paper Transforming children and young people’s mental health provision. This is a roll out of the work to improve access to mental health care for young people set out in the NHS Long Term Plan.
The post holder, under supervision and with support, would offer sound knowledge and practice skills in delivering evidence-based intervention for children and young people in education settings with mild to moderate mental health problems. The post holder would also be supporting and facilitating staff in education settings to identify and where appropriate manage issues related to mental health and wellbeing and working with and within education environments to afford better access to specialist mental health services
The post holder will work under the supervision of the EMHP Supervisors as part of a dynamic mental health team in a creative environment where evidence-based interventions, new ideas, ways of working and supporting children and young people are actively encouraged.
