Derbyshire Healthcare Speech and Language Therapy Service are excited to offer two full time Speech and Language Therapy Assistant posts.

One position will support our Intensive Support Team and the other position will support our Community Support Teams.

Both posts involve working with individuals with learning disabilities, families, paid carers and staff groups in a range of settings.

The work is mostly community based with some in-reach support to hospitals where required.

Community Support Team:

The CSTs (Community Support Teams) work across 5 geographical teams in Derby/ South Derbyshire to meet the varied health needs of adults with Learning Disabilities/ Autism.

This SLTA role involves supporting approx. 10 Speech and Language Therapists in addressing the communication and dysphagia needs of clients who have been referred into the team.

The post holder will work independently but under the guidance and supervision of the SLTs to support with assessment, intervention and evaluation of patient care. While much of the work with be patient focused there will be an element of providing administrative support to the SLT team.

Core hours of work are 9-5 Monday-Friday but with an expectation for flexible working and you will work across a number of community bases and home working.

Intensive Support Team:

Based in Derby, the Intensive Support Team are a specialist, multidisciplinary service that work with adults with learning disabilities/ autism and mental health problems and/or challenging behaviour. IST work intensely for short periods of time with people to support them at times of crisis and prevent placement breakdown or hospital admission.

This SLTA role will support two SLTs with communication assessment, formulation and treatment within a very tangible ‘whole team approach’ alongside the MDT. IST operates 8am-8pm,Monday to Friday and 9-5, Saturday-Sunday on a rota basis; with reduced staffing at the weekends and on evening shifts.

This rota also includes an on-call provision and some home working.

Within both teams there is an expectation to work at times using a consultative approach with clients who have a diagnosis of ASD in the absence of LD alongside our colleagues in Adult Mental Health and those aged 16+ who are transitioning into adult services.

The cost of undertaking a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) disclosure will be met by the individual. The Trust will meet the initial costs of the disclosure which will be deducted from your first month’s salary. The current price of a standard check is £23 and an enhanced check is £40.
