The Trust are pleased to offer a comprehensive Customer Service Practitioner (Level 2) Apprenticeship Programme. This is a structured Programme of between 15-18 months training programme (length of programme is dependent upon contracted hours) that consists of the following:

  • An induction programme providing an insight and development into the skills needed to undertake your new role.
  • Relevant mandatory training including Information Governance and Risk Awareness.
  • Work placement that will be supported through working alongside experienced staff
  • Regular study sessions, support and guidance to develop colleagues who share our core values and objectives at the Trust

As an apprentice, you will be working under the supervision of a dedicated member of staff, providing administrative support within an allocated area of University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust.

This is an amazing opportunity to start, change or develop your career! This may include (but is not limited to) working as a Ward Receptionist, Administrator, , Secretarial, Workforce Systems or Patient Administration Support.

We are looking for individuals that meet the following skills and qualities required for this role;

  • Have good interpersonal communication skills; both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Have keyboard/Word processing experience
  • Be confident in the use of Microsoft software
  • The ability to prioritise tasks and own workload
  • Show enthusiasm for working in the health sector.
  • Be punctual, friendly, motivated.
  • Adaptable to the changing environment.
  • Demonstrate commitment to learning
  • Have a professional outlook and positive attitude.

The following qualifications required for this role are:

  • GCSE Maths & English 3-9(A-D) or equivalent qualification e.g. Functional Skills Level 1

Please state clearly on your application form each individual qualification you have obtained that is essential for the role.

Duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Undertake general office duties, for example, answering the telephone, taking messages, filing, photocopying, handling incoming and outgoing post, etc.
  • Direct contact with service users and other internal departments i.e. at reception/ by telephone
  • Develop and maintain administrative support systems, including manual and electronic filing systems, ensuring that systems are effective in their use and review regularly.
  • Record and securely store information relating to confidential matters and enquiries
  • Assist to arrange and administer meetings / events, including booking venues, the preparation and distribution of training resources.
  • Work a variety of hours including: days, evenings and weekends.
  • Through completion of this apprenticeship you will gain comprehensive training in the role of an administrator whilst obtaining valuable work experience; this will underpin your competency in the work place and develop a wide range of transferable customer service skills.

There is no upper age limit for you to undertake your apprenticeship with us! Not only will you have the opportunity to undertake the Customer Service Practitioner Apprenticeship at Intermediate Level, you will also be automatically eligible for positions within our organisation in line with your qualification on successful completion.

Annual Salaries are as follows:

AGES 16-Under 18 - £10,707 per annum WTE
AGES 18 - 20 - £12,612 per annum WTE
AGES 21-24 - £16,033 per annum WTE
AGES 25+ - £17,050 per annum WTE

The Recruitment Process:

On submission of your application form, our training provider will evaluate your application against the criteria set out in the person specification and the entry requirements of the qualification.

Shortlisted applicants will be requested to undertake an on-line literacy and numeracy diagnostic assessment with Loughborough College.

You will then be advised whether or not you have progressed to the next stage, where you will be invited to an Assessment Centre and potential interview.

ASSESSMENT CENTRE/MARKETPLACE DATE: Monday 9th November 2020.

INTERVIEW DATE: Tuesday 17th November 2020.

On conditional offer of appointment, all applicants are required to undertake pre-employment checks as per the NHS Employer Standards; these include satisfactory references covering the last 3 years of employment, education and/or training history, successful work health assessment and, if required, a satisfactory enhanced DBS clearance (police check).
