This is a permanent role with successful applicants being required to work both at Darent Valley Hospital, Dartford and at Medway Maritime Hospital, Gillingham.

Applications are invited for the post of Senior Biomedical Scientist (BMS) (Band 7), in Blood Transfusion. This post is predominantly based at Darent Valley Hospital.

The successful applicant must be State Registered with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) and have experience of working in an NHS pathology laboratory (or equivalent).

We are looking for an experienced Biomedical Scientist who can bring a dynamic and enthusiastic approach together with proven knowledge and skills in Blood Transfusion and Quality.If you are someone who inspires those around you and is a true ‘team player’, we want to hear from you.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the day to day organization of the Blood Transfusion laboratory, ensuring that quality of results and expected turnaround times are maintained. As well as participation in managerial and laboratory meetings, the post-holder will be expected to support the training and supervision of Biomedical Scientists and support staff in the laboratory.

The Blood Transfusion laboratories have yet to be fully merged and therefore operate individually with different LIMS (APEX and Telepath) and Blood Grouping analysers (BioRad IH500s and Grifols Erytra and Wadiana).  The new post holder will be expected to participate in the Blood Transfusion laboratory alignment process and therefore offers an enthusiastic candidate the opportunity to be part of significant service changes.

Both Blood Transfusion laboratories are work towards full United Kingdom Accreditation Standards (UKAS) accreditation to ISO15189 across both sites (currently held at Darent Valley).
