A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist in the Stroke services at University Hospitals of Leicester (UHL) This is one of the biggest and busiest NHS trusts in the country, incorporating the Leicester General, Glenfield and Royal Infirmary hospitals. The Trust is made up of more than 12,000 staff providing a range of services primarily for the one million residents of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. The UHL Therapy department employs nearly 400 staff and has a reputation for excellent care.

 

The post we are recruiting to is based at the Leicester Royal Infirmary on the 36 bedded hyper acute/Acute stroke unit. This is a fast paced exciting place to work staffed by enthusiastic and experienced clinicians. We are looking for a like-minded individual with a lot of experience and enthusiasm for providing the highest quality of care for the patients. The Occupational therapy and Physiotherapy teams work very closely together in a highly supportive MDT and we require someone who is able to build on this relationship and enhance it through joined up care across the service. The acute stroke physiotherapy team comprises of 7 registered physiotherapy staff including rotational and static staff as well as regular physiotherapy students on placement from local universities. Supporting these staff and students through teaching and education in order to develop the service delivered to an exceptionally high standard will be a key element of the role.

If successful you will be responsible for the assessment and treatment of complex stroke and other related conditions using enhanced clinical decision making skills, therefore experience of working in an acute stroke environment and/or assessment areas is required. The Therapy team provides a seven day service to support the Trust in providing high quality care, facilitating safe discharge and organising ongoing care and therapy intervention. The role requires an understanding of the quality metrics used within the stroke field and an ability to extrapolate essential data and make key service related decisions based on the information

 

The post holder plays a key role in supporting the Trusts emergency care pathway and ensuring timely and accurate patient assessments to support and enhance the patient’s experience of the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland stroke pathway comprised of the Acute/ hyper acute unit, stroke rehab units across the county, an Early Supported Discharge Service (ESDS) as well as a Community based stroke and neurological service. It is expected that the successful candidate will lead on and support the Therapy and wider MDT to make decisions regarding to appropriate progression of all stroke patients along the pathway for further rehabilitation and safe discharge into residential or community based settings.
