We are pleased to announce that a very exciting new opportunity has arisen at Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust to introduce the role of the Physicians Associate within our Mental Health Services for Older People (MHSOP) inpatient wards.

This is a full time post working 37.5 hours per week.

We are looking for a Band 7 Physician Associate to work across our inpatient services within Mental Health Services for Older People (MHSOP). The role will primarily be based within the functional wards but will support the scoping for organic wards in the future.

The post would suit a range of Physician Associate that is either newly qualified or experienced. A dedication to older adults with mental health problems is essential and we will support a tailored induction to support you to gain expertise in Mental Health services. The post will primarily be based at the Bennion Centre on the Glenfield Hospital site. There will be an expectation of travel between site to support service development and progression.

The Physician Associate will work collaboratively with the multi- disciplinary team and be supported and supervised by a Consultant Old Age Psychiatrist in practice and also supervision will be supported through our team of Advanced Nurse Practitioners to continue to link the post holder into relevant professional opportunities and professional updates.

The post holder will develop and play a key role in ensuring that the highest standards of patient care and treatment are provided, enhancing continuity of care and improving the overall patient experience within MHSOP inpatient wards.

Skills, Education and Knowledge Required

  • Have obtained Physician Associates Studies postgraduate diploma/MSc
  • Hold registration with Physician Associate Managed Voluntary Register (PAMVR)
  • Be empathic, proactive and innovative in your approach to clinical practice
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to build a rapport with service users, carers and colleagues
  • Demonstrate commitment to promoting a positive image of the psychiatric MHSOP services and the wider Trust.

  • Provide a structured educational support programme (in collaboration with providers) ensuring opportunities to undertake CPD across a broad range of areas whilst enabling you to also maintain your registration.
  • Support from a dedicated supervisor, responsible for maintaining oversight of your development and the development of the Physicians Associate role within the organization.
  • Ongoing day to day administrative support and contact from within the wider medical team.
