Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust (LPT) provides a range of community health, mental health and learning disability services for people of all ages. Delivered through over 100 settings from inpatient wards to out in the community, our 6,500 staff serves over 1m people living in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 clinician to join our excellent community respiratory and rehabilitation team in Leicestershire as a Respiratory Specialist Practitioner.

The role includes managing an individual case-load of COPD patients to ensure their treatment is optimised to give them the best possible quality of life. The position involves running community based COPD clinics in local health centres and community hospitals and also doing home visits for patients unable to leave their house. This will involve seeing patients in the stable phase of their COPD and also patients who are acutely unwell and require a rapid response and assessment.

Respiratory Specialist Clinicians are expected to work autonomously as an advanced respiratory practitioner to assess, diagnose and treat patients with COPD. You will work with patients and their carers in partnership to develop self-management plans. This will involve working with respiratory patients to optimise their treatment and therapy and during an acute episode to manage and treat their acute respiratory symptoms. This, where appropriate, will include prescribing suitable medications.

The successful applicant will work within a multi-disciplinary team and be supported by the lead for the respiratory service and other respiratory specialist clinicians. The post is permanent and will involve travel across Leicestershire to provide clinics and home visits.

Applicants need to be motivated and enthusiastic with excellent communication skills. You need to demonstrate motivation and commitment to providing high quality patient centre care and patient education. Expert knowledge of respiratory assessment, care and treatment is essential as well as expert knowledge of respiratory medications and diagnostic tests. Advanced clinical assessment and reasoning skills are also required together with detailed knowledge of national and local guidelines which impact on respiratory care.

The community respiratory and rehabilitation team is currently going through an exciting period of service development and growth so this position is an excellent opportunity for someone to join the respiratory team and grow and develop alongside it.
