An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the friendly, dynamic and supportive team of Genetic Counsellors at the South West Thames Regional Genetics Service.

A permanent Band 8A post has presented within the Service. This is a primarily prenatal focused role; with the successful applicant responsible for overseeing the prenatal genetic counselling team. The prenatal genetic counselling team provide clinical consultation, counselling and referral support for the patients, midwives, consultants and other health professionals in the region. We work closely with various referrers, developing and providing collaborative multidisciplinary services to best support our patients.

This post extends to additional clinics, which may include cancer and neuro genetics clinics. We also have a growing cardiac genetics service and specialistBRCAcarrier and tuberous sclerosis clinics.

In addition to clinical work, this post holds opportunities for teaching, research and development. Our Consultant Geneticist team are leading clinical academic work and we are fortunate to contribute to teaching opportunities at the undergraduate and postgraduate level. This is in addition to outreach teaching and support work with the network of health care professionals in our region. We encourage on-going personal and professional development in addition to supporting involvement in research; with our team often presenting at national and international conferences.

Applicants should ideally have experience as a Band 8a Genetic Counsellor and must be registered with the Genetic Counsellor Registration Board (GCRB) or equivalent. Individuals with Band 7 experience, looking for further development are encouraged to apply. We are looking for a genetic counsellor who is confident working autonomously within the busy, often time pressured, prenatal genetic setting. The post holder will be able to recognise the needs of a service and to adopt a flexible and collaborative approach and provide support to colleagues when needed.
