CONSULTANT NEUROLOGISTS

Applications are invited for 1 whole-time consultant in Neuro-Ophthalmology.

This is a replacement post which will enhance the current establishment of NHS staff of the Department of Neurology, and the Neuro-Ophthalmology service.

This post is designed to build close working relationships between the neurology department and the Ophthalmology services within UHL, including emergency services. The successful applicants will work clinically in acute neurology when on call, working with other teams to ensure that neurology patients are seen in a timely manner and have access to specialist neurological opinion. This is a developing role and the applicants will have the opportunity to work with colleagues to ensure this service is embedded into acute care pathways.

In addition to contributing to general and acute neurology care, the successful applicants will develop contribute to the running and development of Neuro-Ophthalmology services. Full secretarial support will be provided and the consultant will share equally with colleagues in the training of the junior staff. The post will involve a commitment to undergraduate teaching and the appointee will be expected to participate in the audit and research activities of the department.

There will be an expectation that the successful candidates will be part of the non-resident on call rota and this will run on a 1 in 7 rotation with the existing Neurology Consultant team. The aim of this is to ensure senior cover for specialist registrars on call.

Applicants must already be on the GMC specialist register or within 6 months of the interview date have a certificate of completion of specialist training.

 

As this post is regulated by the Protection of Children Act 1999, The Criminal Justice Courts Act 2000 and / or the Care Standards Act 2000 an enhanced police criminal records disclosure will be requested by the Trust in the event of a successful application

The successful appointee will be expected to participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and clinical audit. They will be required to undertake management duties and work in a multidisciplinary team.

The University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust consists of three acute teaching hospitals serving the population of Leicestershire. It is fully committed to Continuing Medical Education for consultants.
