Macmillan Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist

Up to 1.0 WTE ( 37.5 hours per week) band 7, Macmillan Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist, Leicester Royal Infirmary

Working Monday to Friday plus weekend Physiotherapy service on a roster.

University Hospitals of Leicester (UHL)are delighted to be able to offer the opportunity to recruit a replacement band 7, Macmillan Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist. This is a full-time post ( 37.5 hours per week), but we might consider 30 hours per week for the ideal candidate, working with the Inpatient Physiotherapy service for the Oncology and Haematology specialties in UHL.

This is a highly specialized post delivering high quality care to a complex patient group. This post sits alongside the Macmillan Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist post and the two staff members work extremely closely together. The post is supported by the Macmillan cancer charity and has the benefits of access to funded post-graduate training from the charity.

This post covers the following clinical areas:

Acute Oncology wards

Haematology ward

Bone Marrow Transplant Unit

Teenage and Young Adult cancer unit

The Oncology/ Haematology Therapy team consists of Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist, Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist, band 5 Physiotherapist, band 5 Occupational Therapist, and band 2 OT assistant.

This team also works closely with the acute Neurology Therapy team at LRI providing mutual clinical support and advice, as well as mutual clinical assistance during periods of increased demand for therapy.

UHL is committed to providing high quality patient care and the Therapy Service supports staff development through external education, in-service training, regular supervision, 1-to-1 meetings and the appraisal process. Macmillan Cancer Charity also give educational support to this post and provide financial assistance each year for attendance at external educational events and courses.

The Oncology Therapy team is part of a wider Therapy service, sitting alongside the Acute Neurology Therapy service, the therapy services to the Brain Injury Unit and The Specialist Neuro Rehabilitation Unit, and the Falls Specialist Therapy team. The Therapists within these teams meet regularly for clinical supervision and in-service training. The band 7 Clinical Specialists from these teams also meet regularly with the Therapy Clinical Team Leader.
